Argentinian Dulce de Leche Fondant

In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Heat over medium-high heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
Continue to cook without stirring until the mixture reaches a deep amber color. Remove from heat and carefully stir in the butter, vanilla extract, and salt.
Combine and Finish:
Open the cooled can of dulce de leche and add it to the caramel mixture. Stir until smooth and well combined.
Pour the mixture into a buttered dish and let it cool completely at room temperature.
Serve:
Once the fondant has set, cut it into small squares and serve as a sweet treat.
