Elegant Tiramisu Cups

In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with the granulated sugar until soft peaks form.
In another bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined.
In a shallow dish, combine the cooled coffee with the coffee liqueur, if using.
Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for a few seconds, making sure they are well soaked but not falling apart.
Place a layer of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of each serving cup.
Spoon a layer of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
Repeat the layers until the cups are filled, ending with a layer of the mascarpone mixture.
Dust the tops with unsweetened cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings, if desired.
Refrigerate the tiramisu cups for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
