Prepare the Crust:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a medium bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and granulated sugar. Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9-inch springform pan. Bake for 10 minutes, then let cool.
Make the Cake:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract. Gradually add the dry ingredients alternately with the buttermilk, mixing until just combined.
Assemble the Cake:
Pour half of the batter over the cooled crust. Arrange the pear slices evenly over the batter, then pour the remaining batter on top.
Prepare the Topping:
In a small bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, brown sugar, and melted butter. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the cake batter.
Bake the Cake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove the springform ring and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
