Meatball in onion sauce

Instructions:
Preparation of the meatball:
In a large bowl, combine the minced meat, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, egg and a handful of breadcrumbs.
Season the mixture with salt, pepper and nutmeg (if using). Mix everything well until a uniform mass is formed.
Form medium-sized meatballs from the mixture.
Cooking meatball:
Heat some oil in a pan over medium heat.
Sear the meatballs until browned on all sides and cooked through. Make sure to turn them occasionally to ensure even cooking.
Prepare onion sauce:
In a separate pan, melt the butter or heat the oil over medium heat.
Add the thinly sliced onions and sauté until soft and golden brown.
Sprinkle the flour over the onions and mix well.
Make the sauce:
Gradually add the beef or vegetable stock, stirring constantly, to avoid lumps forming.
Let the mixture simmer until a smooth sauce forms.
Season the sauce with salt and pepper.
Combine and serve:
Once the meatballs are cooked, place them in the onion sauce and simmer for a few minutes to absorb the flavors.
Serve the meatball in onion sauce with mashed potatoes, rice or with your favorite side dishes.
