Instructions:

1. Cook the bacon: In a large skillet or sauté pan, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until it becomes crispy. Remove the cooked bacon from the pan and set it aside, leaving the bacon grease in the pan.

2. Sauté the onions and garlic: In the same pan with the bacon grease, add the diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté them over medium heat until the onions become translucent and the garlic is fragrant.

3. Prepare the green beans: Add the trimmed green beans to the pan with the onions and garlic. Stir them to coat them with the bacon grease and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the green beans start to become tender.

4. Make the sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, soy sauce, black pepper, and optional red pepper flakes. Pour the sauce over the green beans in the pan and stir well to coat.

5. Simmer and cook: Reduce the heat to low and cover the pan. Let the green beans simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until they reach your desired tenderness, stirring occasionally. The longer they cook, the more the flavors will meld together.

6. Add the bacon: Once the green beans are cooked to your liking, add the cooked bacon back to the pan and stir it in, allowing the flavors to combine for a minute or two.

7. Serve: Transfer the crack green beans to a serving dish and garnish with additional bacon, if desired. They can be enjoyed as a side dish with your favorite main course.

Note: The term « crack » in the name is used metaphorically to describe the addictive nature of these green beans. It is not related to any illegal substances.
